Vividly portrayed in this American Masters Special, photographer Richard Avedon shoots for two different worlds. Primarily, he is a fashion photographer, having worked for various magazines for more than 50 years. Of particular note is the description of photographing Natassja Kinski, a shoot that took two hours of her lying naked on a cement floor as they tried to coax a snake up her body. As a fashion photographer, Avedon became known for his sense of movement and the energy he captured in each image; he gets exquisite models to leap, move, and flip their hair. His second, and perhaps lesser-known, body of work is art photography, including portraits of the famous and the unknown, with a signature style of photographing his sitters on a white background with no props. This documentary ably captures the tension between these two directions in his work by overlaying the positive and negative viewpoints about his photography in a collage of voiceovers. We learn how Avedon views his role as a photographer, and that for him the end result captures "the death of the moment." Also included are the controversial images of his dying father. This program aptly depicts this highly creative man exposed through his work as vulnerable, obsessed, and a perfectionist. This 81-minute-long program will interest a broad audience, from those interested in fashion, people of our times, the history of the 20th century, artists and art historians, and photography in general. --Anne Barclay Morgan

I really had a blast watching I Am Trying to Break Your Heart - A Film About Wilco. The movie was amazing and starred both of my favorite actors Jeff Tweedy & John Stirratt. The star power and the chemistry between Jeff Tweedy and John Stirratt made I Am Trying to Break Your Heart - A Film About Wilco not only watchable and believeable, but a must see!
This splendid documentary captures the band Wilco's struggles (both with their record company and within the band itself) while recording their album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I Am Trying to Break Your Heart is completely engrossing, whether or not you are familiar with the band. As they work on the album, there's some tension between singer-songwriter Jeff Tweedy and bandmate Jay Bennett, but overall the band members are happy and enjoying exploring their music. But when they turn in the finished songs, their record label drops them, leaving them adrift with the album that promises to be a huge artistic leap. For fans of Wilco, this gorgeously photographed movie will be a thrilling look at the life of the band and Tweedy's creative process; but even novices will be drawn into the contrasts between art and commerce brought out by the conflict. --Bret Fetzer

There may be no such thing as the perfect crime. But perfect crime entertainments are as easy as 1...2...3... in this star-packed set. First, sunshine and murder are just what the doctor orders when a physician-prescribed vacation plunges Miss Marple into A CARIBBEAN MYSTERY. MURDER IS EASY asks: Can a computer catch a killer? And MURDER WITH MIRRORS teams Leo (Rumpole) McKern with Hayes' Marple in a case of manor-house intrigue. Happy sleuthing!
The wonderful cast includes Helen Hayes, Barnard Hughes, Jameson Parker, Season Hubley, Swoosie Kurtz.
