So bad it's good

I never watched this when I was a kid, but I got curious about it when a good friend of mine showed me the zelda cartoon. For the actors that were available, I enjoyed Lou Albano and Danny Wells as Mario and Luigi because you can tell they were into their character and had fun. The cartoon segments do have episodes that parody anything you can think of. They parody the revolution, star wars, etc.

Now both of these segments are pretty bad, but if they were a little bit better, they would just be bad, but it's so bad it's good. If you find a good deal on this, go for it.

Super Nostalgia Bros.

First off, I think this show is great so my review is bias. To be fair there is quite a lot of material but its not really that great. I love the Super Mario Bros. but the animation is not good, ok for its time. It looks like SHOUT! just took taped episodes and put them on DVD. There are parts where it looks like tracking is readjusted and a most of the cartoons could use some editing. The live action segments are superb and the special effects are dated. Extremely. It looks as though the director yelled cut and then made a few changes and then yelled action and the edit isn't that smooth. The jokes are extremely corny and alot of the logic in the writing is poor and geared towards kids. I still laughed though, I laughed alot watching this DVD. The best audience I think is older viewers to relive nostalgia. Speaking of audience intended, this was a kids show when it came on TV. I can see that it's "Not rated" and for a good reason. Mario and Luigi will curse every once in awhile (usually not too bad) but in the very first episode in the first minute (not including the intro. song) Mario says to Luigi, (there are no subtitles but I checked over and over with various people who heard the same thing) "F*ck you Luigi" not to mention all the subtle risque behavior/undertones. So I'm not sure that I'd let my kids watch this on there own. All that aside its very enjoyable for the older fan reflective on shows of his or her past and the guest stars are pretty cool to see too with a very impressive array.

Ouch

When I was young, I watched this show and loved the cartoon segments, but hated the live action segments. Now that I went back and saw them on this collection, the few good live action segments are the only things that are keeping me from making a fire out of this collection. The cartoons had such terrible stories, jokes and animation. I liked Dennis Hopper playing Koopa in the '93 movie, but the lines they gave this guy, and the look of him, almost made me want to throw up. For the live action segments, the storylines were okay (sometimes), the guest stars were very rarely good, but Elvis Presley and a few more were awesome, being, again, the only thing keeping me from burning this set with marshmallows. Plus, the picture quality on this was dirt-poor. It looked like someone traced all the characters in the film with white pencil, or something. The songs, dancing, all stuff a six-year-old MIGHT like, but $20 for these four discs? I feel SO ripped off.
