Tyler Perry's Downfall

How can a guy like Tyler Perry who creates such beautiful and captivating motion pictures stoop to such a low as what he does for TBS with this terrible show. It's hard to even crack a smile at the stupid happenings that go on during the show. This show isn't real life. It's like a whole bunch of former drug addicts that get together and yell a lot with audience applause everywhere throughout. By the way, this applause and laughter happens at all the wrong places. Think about when someone says something not funny when they're trying to be and you look at the person next to you with a really confused look.....this is "House of Payne". If you're looking for entertainment stick to Perry's movies, which are wonderful. Hopefully this 100 episode contract he has with TBS will run out soon so we don't have to see the commercials promoting it any more either.

DVD came with broken case and DVD had too many scratches on it. it skips too many times. i was very disappointed with this purchase. this dvd is now in my trash can.

We waited and waited!

I waited for this movie and my son and I went and bought it the first day it was out! We wanted so much for this to be the best Thomas ever. Well, it's good - I mean really good, but I'm sorry, Pierce Brosnan is not the right person to do the voiceover. OK, that's just my opinion and I'm not even sure whether my 3-yr-old agrees or not.

Brosnan sounds like he is doing toddler Shakespeare. He is a little over the top for me. There are moments when this works and others where it would be nice to be a little more "story-like." What do I mean? Well, it's the difference between a good actor and a great actor. I don't want to think about the narrator while I'm watching a Thomas episode. I want him to just BE there, reading it really well. Even Ringo pulled this off and I never thought it possible.

All that said, the movie is great - lots of thrills and plots. And of course we all learn great lessons as we resolve the issues of the day. I wouldn't miss it for the world; I would just prefer another narrator.

We have seen the current PBS episodes, with the new computer graphics, and Brosnan is not the narrator. Does anyone know the story?

We are big fans of Tom & Jerry, and to have Whoopie Goldberg going on and an on about racial injustice- every time you watch the DVD, boils my blood. She uses adult words, verbiage and her monologue is irritating to the adults in the room and a snooze fest to the kids. Accept Tom & Jerry for what they are, don't feel like you have to put racial disclaimers about images that play for 5 seconds in a film. Kids do no notice it, it has no impact on them. The are just watching the zany, fun antics of Tom & Jerry. I would skip this one just b/c of the ineptness of WB's and the fact that you can not avoid this lengthy disclaimer (menu option), you have to locate a remote and fast forward over it.

One to be remembered

I watched this on PBS when it first aired back in 1983. This show, more than anything, helped create a fascination with castles that continues to this day (I visited one of the castles featured here, Conwy Castle, several years later). I have a well-worn VHS version of this show, and plan to replace it with the DVD.

The show alternates between live action and animation. The live action features author David Macaulay along with Sarah Bullen (presumably someone known in the UK) as they tour several castles in Wales, explaining how they were built.

The animation shows the building of a fictional castle, including an interesting story showing the type of people who would have been involved in the building of an actual medieval Welsh castle. The fictional story helps bring history to life and adds to the show. It isn't simply filler.

I highly recommend this!

Perfect Castle Unit Study

My 13 year old and I read the book "Castle" together. He absolutely loved reading about the history and building of the castle. He has another larger DK book on Castles and as we read told me about his previous knowledge on the topic we were reading about and expanded our discussion. The images (drawings) being b/w are a perfect match so that details of the castle stand out. After reading this story, we watched the accompanying PBS special Castle by the same author. The movie is s a perfect tag-a-long going into further details and highlighting real castles and showing the details that were discussed in the book. To follow up on the book/movie, my son is now building his own brick castle. We ordered a kit and it includes everything to make little bricks from molds and then directions on exactly how to build the castle. I highly recommend purchasing the book, movie and castle building kit together if you or your child is interested in castles and/or medieval studies. All three provide great discussion, for both visual and auditory learners as well as a hands-on experience.
